Abstract

Aim: To evaluate the recurrence rate of Clostridium difficile  infection (CDI) in the patients admitted to the Iasi “Sf. Parascheva” Infectious Diseases Hospital. Material and methods: Observational retrospective study of the patients admitted between January 1st, 2017 and June 30th, 2019. Results: Of the total of 736 patients diagnosed with CDI and admitted to our hospital  240 were included in this study. According to the number of CDI recurrences, 63.81 % of the patients experienced a first recurrence of CDI, over 20% a second recurrence, and the remaining patients a third to sixth recurrence. Conclusions: CDI is still a serious problem and a major burden on both the healthcare system and the patient. The causes of recurrent CDI are unclear.
