RISK FACTORS ASSOCIATED WITH RECURRENCE OF CLOSTRIDIOIDES DIFFICILE INFECTION

Abstract

Aim To evaluate the impact of selected risk factors (social, demographic, habitual, comorbidities) on the relapses in the infection with Clostridioides difficile. Material and methods: A retrospective analysis of the hospital - based medical records of the patients with Clostridioides difficile infection (CDI) admitted in the Clinical Hospital of Infectious Diseases Iasi, Romania during 2017. Results: We retrospectively evaluated the medical data of patients with CDI admitted in the Clinical Hospital of Infectious Diseases “Sf. Parascheva” Iasi, Romania and included in our study 82 patients that had history of at least one episode of CDI. Risk factors that could be associated with young patients (under 40 years) were malnutrition. Alcohol - related liver diseases and tuberculosis were the most prominent risk factors in patients aged 40-60 years. Patients aged between 61-80 years, frequently associating chronic diseases were the most affected. Conclusions: Elder patients are representing an exposed group and have increased  vulnerability to infection with Clostridioides difficile, and because of that they require a special interest for antibiotic stewardship.
