Abstract

Radiation protection aims to reduce unnecessary exposure to radiation to minimize the harmful effects of ionizing radiation, this goal is achieved by using different means and methods of radiation protection. The aim of this study was to analyze the knowledge, perceptions, and attitudes of medical personnel in the N-E Region of Romania regarding radiation protection and the effects of ionizing radiation. Materials and methods: The study was carried out based on the use of a structured questionnaire for data collection, a questionnaire that was distributed to the medical staff (doctors, nurses, radiologists) from hospitals and medical centers in the N-E Region of Romania. Results: The results show that most respondents know about the stochastic and deterministic biological effects of ionizing radiation, but a significant group has incomplete, average, or uncertain knowledge about this topic. Conclusions: These aspects suggest a need for additional education in the field of radiation protection in the workplace.
